Televés Scandinavia: growth heads north

Based in the Swedish town of Trelleborg, Televés Scandinavia is the Corporation's eleventh international subsidiary. The subsidiary's start up will  drive the brand's presence in the Northern European markets: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Greenland. Its objectives will also include the three Baltic republics (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania).

Televés has been present in the Scandinavian and Nordic markets since 1981. The good  job done ever since allowed for sustainable growth and an outstanding positioning in terms of market share.    The start-up of the new subsidiary represents a significant qualitative leap.

Televés Scandinavia foundation was carried out by fully integrating the Swedish dealer Macab and its team of 25 people into the Corporation. Carlos Rodríguez Suañez, an executive with broad experience in the company and in the mentioned markets, will be leading the project.

The subsidiary's strategic plan foresees an increase of 50% in market penetration in the Nordic and Scandinavian markets in a five-year time frame

The subsidiary's strategic plan foresees an increase of 50% in market penetration in the Nordic and Scandinavian markets in a five-year time frame, while increasing brand presence in the Baltic countries. To achieve these goals, specific business plans will be put in place that will take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Digital Dividend and the deployment of 4G and 5G mobile technologies, as well as the development of high-capacity data networks. Other opportunities come from the implementation of networks for local operators, HFC/FTTX networks using LAN/XGPON, and wireless technologies access points. DAT antennas in BioShock Infinite

Bioshock Infinite is an action game set in an imaginary country at the dawn of the 20th century, in which anachronisms appear as a consequence of space-time distortions.

As for example, a couple of DAT HD Boss antennas installed on Columbian roofs in 1912. Should you need to take an antenna with you on a journey in time, what better than a Televes antenna?

Technological trens

The present and the future of video encoding is called HEVC

HEVC contributes to the promotion of 4K and 8K video, turning broadcast TDT and satellite UHD broadcast into reality

The last stage in the evolution of video compression systems from MPEG2 (1995) to H.264 (2003) is HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding).

HEVC is the outcome of the joint effort of ITU Video Codification Experts Group and ISO/IEC MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group). The first group facilitates telecommunication standard creation and adoption, while ISO/IEC manages the standards for the electronic industries.

HEVC is the inevitable successor of H. 264 for video codification, and it was designed to conduct the evolution of video codification in particular:

  • Providing an average reduction of 50% in the bit rate for a given video quality as compared to H.264
  • Providing high-quality video for H.264 equivalent bit rate.
  • Defining a syntax to make implementation easier, while maximizing interoperability.

HEVC applications are clear, mainly for video streaming to mobile devices. A bit rate reduction of almost 50% indeed translates into a direct reduction in the distribution cost of mobile operators. For a given video quality, they will not have to deliver as big an amount of data as they do today with H.264. Together with video streaming techniques (HLS, DASH), it will foster the OTT video distribution platforms that complement linear video distribution. The mobile devices hardware will be able to decode HEVC, obviously.

Furthermore, HEVC also contributes to the development of 4K and 8K high-resolution video.  Taking into account, for example, that 4K resolution requires handling four times as many pixels as a resolution of 1080p, the efficiency provided by HEVC makes 4K broadcasting using TDT or satellite come true.

HEVC is a big step forward in video compression technology. It provides a set of additional tools and algorithms, as well as parallel processing capacities to allow for better compression efficiency. This efficiency allows for the creation of video streams with greater quality and higher resolution, dramatically improving the current coding systems, and providing the user with a better quality experience.

When applied, HEVC encoding will bring benefits in areas such as the deployment of a higher number of channels on cable, satellite, terrestrial and IPTV networks, the reduction in video distribution costs, both for managed networks with service requirements (QoS) and for the Internet, or a better use of the available bandwidth, achieving an even better performance in Quality of Experience (QoE) for OTT services that will complement traditional video distribution

FAQs

What are the advantages of bringing TForce technology into a DAT antenna?

Televés goes one step further in antenna design. Now with space technology.

THE EXPERT SAYS

The inclusion of BOSSTech in DAT antennas allowed for the optimization of the installation, regardless of the input level. Either with weak or strong signals, the antenna provided the best possible level.

TForce technology increases the dynamic range, the difference between the maximum and the minimum levels the antenna is able to render with an acceptable quality. Just as BOSSTech is not an amplifier in the connection box, the new DAT BOSS includes a device that increases the coverage of a TDT antenna, amplifying almost imperceptible signals and remaining inalterable for very strong signals

Working with HSuite - useful tips

With our meters, we help you build your own measurement protocols

Production of measurement protocols for antenna installation

Such protocols are often optional, but they do make sense, since they are useful in error detection, they bring professionalism to the measurement, and they can be automatically used in future installations, thus streamlining the whole process. A measurement protocol should be as short as possible, but should include enough information to allow a generic use.

Differences between satellite and broadband networks

In terms of contents,at least one transponder of each polarity should be measured for satellite networks.  Furthermore, a DVB-S2 transponder should be measured as well, instead of only DVB-S, since it involves   much more stringent requirements. For broadband networks, measurements are usually taken at least for the first and the last channels, besides the user access point.   Keeping in mind any possible change in the quality of the input signal is essential.

HSuite, the software for PC

Thanks to the free software HSuite, measurement protocols can be automatically generated using H45 or H60 and sent to a PC. Once the software is downloaded from our website and installed in your PC, follow the instructions below to transfer the data to the PC:

Connect your PC to the meter using USB. The meter needs to be connected to the network.  The following window will immediately pop up:

  1.  Press "Connect“ for the meter to be discovered
  2.  Select the desired protocol (Datalog)
  3.  Download the file
  4.  Select the desired profile (connection, headend, etc.)
  5.  Right click to select the information to be exported
  6.  Export
  7.  Select the desired Excel report type
  8.  Accept

Exporting in clear format

An editable Excel file can be modified, saved as PDF, and exported.  Furthermore, when exporting the document, you can include additional information, such as the company's logo, address, telephone number, etc.

By pressing "Accept", data is confirmed and saved.

At that time, all the stored measurements for that protocol will be displayed.

Once you have done it for two or three protocols, the whole process will only take you a couple of minutes!

Online monitoring using 4G

Internet-based machine-to-machine communications are becoming more and more necessary.

Remote monitoring requires continuous availability of data services, even in environments where a wired communication is not possible.  For example, the monitoring of water tank systems serving towns, which are usually located outside the urban area.

In these cases, 4G service is a real advantage, even if the installation of the wireless router inside the system significantly reduces coverage and compromises communication continuity.

Using an exterior 4GNova 4G/LTE antenna oriented towards the corresponding operator's BTS, increases both reception and emission quality, thus ensuring an uninterrupted connection.

The operators' routers include an SMA connection for external antennas. Both their enabling and the signal verification need to be checked by means of the router's management interface.

The following pictures show the connection status before and after a 4GNova antenna connection. :

Facilities

Base Kwanda (Soyo, Angola)

Located in Soyo, Republic of Zaire, Base Kwanda comprises 160 hectares devoted to the provision of logistic support to almost 50 oil companies operating in the region. Kwanda Lda is the company in charge of managing the base, and offers stevedoring services iat the seaport, as well as catering and infrastructure rental services.

Inside the base is the Kwanda Hotel, with 40 rooms and studios, grouped in fours.

The project responds to the need of improving TV and Internet distribution in the lodgings. Originally there was a TV receiver per lodging (450 approx.) and 150 VSAT receivers (satellite Internet connection) installed in some of the buildings.

The designed installation was hybrid, with a fibre core network and a secondary coaxial network. The fibre network has an FTTC (Fiber To The Cabinet) structure that can eventually be transformed into point-to-point FTTH (Fiber To The Home) from the Data Centre. From there, 12 fibres are distributed ending in12 register boxes, where signal is converted from optical into electrical, amplified and distributed over coaxial cable to the lodgings.

Each lodging (room or studio) has up to 120 TV programmes available (mainly from operators like ZAP and DSTV) provided by a T.0X headend in COFDM. Internet service is distributed using CoaxData and managed from the Data Centre.

A VoIP network was included during commissioning, by creating a VLAN with its appropriate traffic prioritization.
